When you say "the player", do you mean that you link vdr-softdevice with 
something else than VDR ?
I so, you seem to be joining one of the goals of the defunct softmpeg 
VDR plug-in + lib, namely "provide a reusable library for software MPEG2 
playback using DirectFB".

How does "playing a DivX using VDR" fits in this scheme ?
