[Mapnik-users] foreign language

Hi

I am Waruna from sri lanka, im very new to mapnik, just three days
start using it :)
I was trying to display labels in a map in sinhala font but i didnt succeed
wat i did do was, i store labels in sinhala in a postgis database then
tried to render it. wat i get was few square marks.

Is there any way to display foreign languages in mapnik,
if anyone could plz giv me a help
