Espen,
Yep, sure. The work-flow to render a map is pretty much the same in all
examples.
If you're interested in latest Canada map, I used QT application ( that
I use for testing features/bugs etc).
It is very basic map viewer and is not ready for the prime time, but
you're welcome to hack it :). All datasets are from http://atlas.gc.ca/.
And of course you can render the same map in Python.
Are you after Python or C++? Let me know and I'll send you some source.
BTW, for text rendering you need to build mapnik from latest svn trunk.
