Yes and no ;-)
Since we have the CDDA file system, every media player capable of 
playing WAVs can handle CDs. However, playing the CD directly, that is 
using a headphone on the CD player, won't work. CDPlayer itself should 
also only work correctly if you happen to have connected your CD player 
with your sound card.
